Peds cardiologist, environmental health postdoc join faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Kalyl Olson Cable, M.B.B.S.

Kalyl Cable

Dr. Kalyl Olson Cable, a board-certified pediatric cardiologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

Before coming to UMMC, he received his residency and fellowship training from the Jackson Memorial Hospital in association with the University of Miami.

Cable hails from the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Before attending medical school, he worked as a laboratory assistant at the national Multipurpose Laboratory.

He was awarded the University of West Indies non-campus country open scholarship to attend medical school at St. Augustine in Trinidad. He earned his M.B.B.S. in 2008. After medical school, he served as a house officer at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, St. Augustine, Trinidad, from 2009-14.

After working within in the Caribbean, Cable came to the U.S. to further his medical education. He completed residency training in pediatrics at the Holtz Children’s Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida, from 2014-17. He then had fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at Holtz General Hospital from 2017-20.

An active member of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology, among other professional organizations, Cable has given two invited presentations at scientific meetings in Florida and a virtual presentation to the American Society of Echocardiography. He enjoys working with the community and his research interests include establishing a high school-based pediatric cardiology telemedicine clinic in underserved communities and evaluating obesity in patients with congenital heart disease. He received his board certification in pediatric cardiology from the American Board of Pediatrics in 2020.

Srishti Shrestha, M.D.

Dr. Srishti Shrestha has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in The MIND Center and in the Department of Neurology.

She received the Bachelors of Pharmacy from Kathmandu University, Nepal, and the Masters of Public Health in epidemiology from the University of Kentucky. She received her doctoral training in epidemiology at the University at Albany School of Public Health, where she studied the effects of several persistent pollutants on neuropsychological status in older adults.

Before joining UMMC, she was a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, where she studied environmental risk factors of chronic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and thyroid disease.
